MATHILDE M. VAN DITMARS

Welcome! I'm a political sociologist, working as assistant professor at the University of Milan.

My research falls within political sociology, political behaviour, and gender and politics. I study how family background, political socialization, and life course experiences shape citizens' political attitudes and behaviour, and how these contribute to inequalities by gender, education, and social class. 

I am the Principal Investigator of INTERGEN (Italian FIS Starting Grant, 2026-2031), which examines how structural inequalities relate to generational political change and what this means for political representation in ageing democracies.
